ABOUT
I’m a Graphic Designer, Illustrator, and Art Director living in Brooklyn, NY. I mostly gravitate toward Children’s Book design and illustration, but love any creative work that tells a story and connects emotionally—be it a person’s life or career, a fictional character, a time period, or place. I’m really excited about exploring creative storytelling through new mediums such as story apps and enhanced e-books. I’m also a film and travel fanatic—two influences that surely find their way into my work.

BIO
I was raised in rural Western MA, the oldest of 5 kids. At 18, I moved to New York to study design and illustration at Pratt Institute. I entered the world of Children’s Book Publishing upon graduation, starting as an Art Department Assistant at G.P. Putnam’s Sons and Philomel Books. As I made my way up the ladder there, I benefitted from the expertise of some wonderful mentors. I am currently the Art Director at Amazon Children’s Publishing. Dear Ms. Damkoehler,
Browsing through an e-mail from Barnes and Noble the other day, I noticed the cover of Tiger’s Destiny and immediately thought about how gorgeous it is. I just wanted to comment on it, saying that I love the colors, the activity, and the graphic frame present on the covers throughout the series. You inspire me to work harder.

Thanks for your kind words, Emily! I’ve spent many hours seeking inspiration from other artists’ work myself. The Tiger’s Destiny illustration is by the very talented Cliff Nielsen. Your illustrations are wonderful as well!
